if im reading this right, multiply both sides by 3 to cancel it from the left and distribute 4 into (x-16) to get 4x-64. add 64 to both sides and divide the final number on the right by 4 to get x

I have a feeling judging by the numbers that he meant:
(x-16)^(4/3) = 81
x - 16 = 81^(3/4)
x - 16 = 27
x = 43
(x-16)^(4/3) = 81
x - 16 = 81^(3/4)
x - 16 = 27
x = 43
