How long does it take to get there?

1. It takes 40 minutes.
2. It does take 40 minutes.

#1 is right. What about #2? If a kid writes '#2' as an answer to the question, do we have to make it right or not?

make it right. #2 doesn't make clear sense since it isn't referring to anything.

The correct way to say #2 would be if a person was having a conversation with someone.

Ex: Sam: "Hey, Bill. How long far away is the market?"

Bill: "About 40 minutes."

Sam: "That sounds long, I don't think it takes 40 mins."

Bill: "It does take 40 minutes."

^thats an example of how it would be said in daily life.
