Leslie and Jess were racing at school. Leslie was able to complete the race in 12 1/2 seconds, whereas jess finished in13 1/10 seconds. How much faster did Leslie run?

the difference between two numbers is found by subtraction:

13 1/10 - 12 1/2
= 12 11/10 - 12 5/10
= 6/10 or 3/5
