An ammeter indicates the current for a toaster is 5.0 amps when the toaster is connected to 120-V circuit. How much energy is given off by the toaster in 42.0 seconds? Show all calculations leading to an answer.

Formula for power given the current and voltage:
P = IV
Substituting,
P = 5.0 * 120
P = 600 Watts

Note that Watts is also Joules / second. Thus to get the energy, we multiply the power by the time:
P = E/t
E = Pt
E = 600 J/s * 42 s
E = 25200 J

hope this helps~ `u`
