A string of decorative lights is 28 feet long. The first light on the string is 16 inches from the plug. If the lights on the string are spaced 4 inches apart, how many lights are there on the string?

Find out what length of the string will have lights on it (some of it has no lights on it as said in the question). See how many 4 inches are then in that space. Don't forget to include the first bulb after you work out the total.

26ft = how many inches
Take away the piece of string with no lights (the 16 inches)
See what's left and divide by 4 inches (as each light is placed 4 inches apart).
Add 1 at the end as you didn't include the first bulb.
