Question
A rope is 15 feet long. Cut it into 3 pieces. The first piece was 3.57 feet longer than the second piece. The third piece was 2.97 feet longer than the second piece. How long was the third piece of rope?
Answers
Steve
If the 2nd piece is x, then
x+3.57 + x + x+2.97 = 15
x+3.57 + x + x+2.97 = 15
Robert
(x+3.57)+x+(x+2.97)=15
3.57+2.97+3x=15
6.54+3x=15
3x=15-6.54
3x=8.46
x=8.46/3
x=2.82
2.82+3.57+2.82+2.97+2.82=15
6.39+2.82+5.79=15
3.57+2.97+3x=15
6.54+3x=15
3x=15-6.54
3x=8.46
x=8.46/3
x=2.82
2.82+3.57+2.82+2.97+2.82=15
6.39+2.82+5.79=15
