Did Jordan say "you’re ready to go do something else"
yes
You can do citations any way your heart desires...I go with the old Chicago style book I learned at the University of Texas in 1960. However, styles change. So use whatever your heart desires.

Now if your teacher told you to use MLA, or APA, or else, you need to use those for those classes. If you are writing for publication, you need to use what the publication demands in its writing guide.

So your question: "is this the right way.." cannot be answered, unless you specify a style guide that you are instructed to use. My crystal ball (and ouija board, and my magic 8 ball) is on the blink, so I have no idea what you are supposed to use. Do you know? I recommend ask if you do not know.
