I'm helping my son he is in 4th grade . His hw it's hard and this is the problem : find two mixed numbers. So that the sum is 7 2/8 and the difference 2 4/8.

Let one number = x and the other = y.
x + y = 7 2/8
x - y = 2 4/8
Add the two equations to find value of x.
2x = 9 6/8
Divide both sides by 2.
x = 4 7/8
