A square piece of paper is folded in half to make a rectangle. The perimeter of the rectangle is 24.9 cm. What is the side length of the square piece of paper?

original square is x by x cm
new rectangle is x by x/2

2( x + x/2) = 24.9
2x + x = 24.9
x = 8.3

the square piece is 8.3 by 8.3 cm
