what is left of the original pizza would be
1/2pizza - 1/3(1/2)pizza
= 3/6pizza - 1/6pizza
= 2/6pizza
=1/3 of the original pizza
1/2pizza - 1/3(1/2)pizza
= 3/6pizza - 1/6pizza
= 2/6pizza
=1/3 of the original pizza

sorry! Taking the production of the fractions [1/2(1/3) = 1/6] would give you how of the pizza Jeff has eaten. Jeff has 1/2 pizza in the fridge, so taking the difference 1/2(equivalent to 3/6)-1/6 (the amount of pizza he ate)= 2/6 (which can be reduced down to 1/3, the amount of pizza left)
