Please clarify your problem:
Does V mean Voltage or velocity?
Did you give all of the INFO?

If:
V = Supply voltage.
V1 = Voltage across R1.
V2 = Voltage across R2.
R1 and R2 connected in series.

Then, V = V1 + V2
