A gardener is making a triangular planting, with 35 plants in the front row, 31 in the second row, 27 in the third row and so on. If the pattern is consistent how many plant are there be in the last row?

subtract multiples of 4 till you can't get any smaller.

In other words, what is the remainder of 35/4 ?

oh, please. If you divide by 4, the remainder cannot be 8

35 = 8*4 + 3

8 is the quotient
3 is the remainder
