A family buys 4 hamburgers and 3 orders of fries for $8.40. Another family buys 5 hamburgers and 2 orders of fries for $9.10. What is the cost of each?

4h + 3f = $8.40
5h + 2f = $9.10

do a little multiplying and you have

8h + 6f = 16.80
15h + 6f = 27.30

Now subtract to get rid of the f's and you have

7h = 10.50
h = 1.50

Now you can figure f.
