x^2-3x-4 = (x-4)(x+1)
So, you have
x/[(x-4)(x+1)] - 4/(x+1)
(x - 4(x-4))/[(x-4)(x+1)]
(16-3x)/[(x-4)(x+1)]
As usual, you cannot divide by zero, so any values of x that make a denominator zero are excluded.
