Put both equations in the form of a straight line which is y = mx + b and determine m for each line. If m is the same, the lines are parallel.

y = -(5/4)x + 10/4
and
y = -(4/5)x + 3/5
not the same slope because -5/4 is not -4/5
not perpendicular because -(5/4)/-(4/5) is not -1 (it is +1)
and
y = -(4/5)x + 3/5
not the same slope because -5/4 is not -4/5
not perpendicular because -(5/4)/-(4/5) is not -1 (it is +1)
