Ned folded a set of oragami figures. Of this set, 5/8 are cranes and 1/6 of the remainder are frogs. The rest are grasshoppers. What fraction of the origami figures are grasshoppers?

I believe this is correct but I maybe wrong.

Take 5/8+1/6 then once you get the answer subtract a whole fraction (hint 24/24) then the remaining fraction is your answer. But like I said I maybe wrong.

5/8 are cranes
3/8 are not cranes

(1/6) * (3/8) = 3/48 = 1/16 are frogs

5/8 = 10/16

10/16 + 1/16 = 11/16 are cranes and frogs

16/16 = 11/16 = 5/16 are grasshoppers.

If I were you , I would go with Ms Sue's answer of 5/16
since often lawyers don't tell the truth.

btw, Ms Sue's last line is
16/16 - 11/16 = 5/16

8/8 - 5/8 = 3/8 not cranes
6/6 - 1/6 = 5/6 grasshoppers
3/8 x 5/6 = 15/48 or 5/16 are grasshoppers

Same answer as above just done differently.

1-5/8=3/8 (remainders)
1/6*3/8=3/48=1/16 (frogs)
3/8-1/16=5/16 (grasshoppers)

5/8+1/16+5/16=1

Hence 5/16 is the correct answer
