I would not have written it your way, but your arithmetic is strange and I can not see how you got the right answer.
107400/100 = 1074 not 10740
but 10740 is correct
107400/100 = 1074 not 10740
but 10740 is correct

In real life I would not have done this as a proportion. I would have said
.06 * 179,000 = 10,740
.06 * 179,000 = 10,740

I would write

6/100 = x /179,000

Would I put x=10,740?
Answered by
Damon
yes
100 x = 6 * 179,000 = 6 * 1790 = 10,740
100 x = 6 * 179,000 = 6 * 1790 = 10,740
Answered by
Damon
or rather
100 x = 6 * 179,000
x = 6 * 1790 = 10,740
100 x = 6 * 179,000
x = 6 * 1790 = 10,740
Answered by
Callie
So I would put
6/100=x/179,000
100 x=6*179,000=6*1790=10,740
x=10,740
6/100=x/179,000
100 x=6*179,000=6*1790=10,740
x=10,740

I got the answer from converting 6% into a decimal and dividing it by 100 to make 0.06 and then multiplying that with 179,000 to get 10,740. I don't understand why I would need to do any more than that to get the answer when I simply got it from converting the percent and multiplying it with 179,000?

ok bro I-
To solve it you need to set up a proportion right? Okay. 6%? It equals 6/100. Your other fraction is ???/179,000. Got that? Alright. Now, to solve a proportion, we need to cross multiply. Cross multiplying means you multiply a numerator (top number) by the denominator (bottom number) of the other fraction, and they usually equal the same number. Which is what they want here. Which means we do 6 x 17900, which you get 1074000 for. Now, this is how we figure out “???”. Remember how I said the need to equal the same thing? Which means “???” is obviously 1074000 divided by 100 (since that’s the denominator of 6/100.). Your answer is 10740. I’ll come back and check this thread some other time to see if anyone needs help. Might as well help you guys show your work too, you need it <3

I've just been doing -
179,000 x 6 = 1,074,000
1,074,000 / 100 = 10,740
179,000 x 6 = 1,074,000
1,074,000 / 100 = 10,740
