Question

I always get stuck because I never know where to start, and the signs confuse me.

Here's the problem:
-10-(-8)+(-4)-20

Here's my first step...
-20-10-8+4
-10-4
=-14

But, that's not right. I checked in the back of the book for the answer, and the answer is -26. I know I didn't do it right, because I struggled with it too much.

Can someone please lead me, and show me what I did wrong?
