Does 'tried' mean 'applied for'? Or do you have some other expressions similar to 'tried' in Sentence 1?

In 1, you need to say, "She tried out for ... " Then it'll mean approximately the same as 2.

Don't forget to capitalize the C in "China." It's a proper noun.
