Hmm… The wording in this problem is a little tricky to me, so I'm assuming that its an alternating pattern (poor monkey).
For the first minute the monkey is at 4 meters
For the second minute monkey is at 2 meters ( because he slips down)

So basically every 2 minutes, he's climbing 2 meters
so every minute he's climbing 1 meter
so it's going to take that monkey 15mins to climb 15 meters ( man that monkey is slow!)

    Not quite.
After 12 minutes he has climbed 12 meters
In the 13th minute, he climbs the final 3 meters and is done.
Final time is thus 12:45

Ah, that is true! at 12 minutes he did climb 12 meters
and it took him another .45 seconds to climb the rest.
Wow, I completely neglected some stuff here.
Thanks for clarifying Steve!

Well, as long as I'm clarifying
:-) :-) :-)
That would be 45 seconds, not .45 seconds
Or, if you insist on decimals, try .75 minutes!
