JUST A MOM TRYING TO HELP MY CHILD WITH UNDERSTANDING. DON'T KNOW HOW TO SOLVE
THE SECOND PROBLEM
Write equation for each segment. show your work.
(-4,-3) (-3,-3) Y = mx + b
3 = 0(-4) +b
3 = 0 + b
Y = x - 3
(1,-5) (6,-2) Y = mx + b
-5 = 3/5 (1) + b
-5 = 3/5 +b
Don't really know where to go from here

To find the equation for a line we use the formula
Y = mx+b
where m = the slope
where b = the intercept
So you are given two points
(1,5), (6,-2)
You first need to find the slope of that line:
m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m = (-2-(-5)5)/(6-1)
m = 3/5 <---- slope
now that you have found the slope
Apply the point slope formula:
y - y1 = m(x-x1)
You can use either (1,-5) or (6,-2), it doesn't matter. Just pick one and be consistant.
I will choose (1-5)
so applying the formula:
y - (-5) = 3/5(x-1)
y+5 = (3/5)*x - 3/5
y = 3/5*x - 28/5
It's basically the same as the first problem, but this one has fractions.

Also, for the first question the answer is
y = 0*x - 3
I think you just made a typo
y = 0*x - 3
I think you just made a typo

m = (-2-(-5)5)/(6-1)
should be
m = (-2-(-5))/(6-1)
m = 3/5
should be
m = (-2-(-5))/(6-1)
m = 3/5
