work your way from the inside, to get rid of parens and brackets:
2[4(9 – 7) + 1] ÷ 3
2[4(2) + 1] ÷ 3
2[8+1]÷3
Now do the multiply and divide, left to right:
2[9]÷3
18÷3
6
2[4(9 – 7) + 1] ÷ 3
2[4(2) + 1] ÷ 3
2[8+1]÷3
Now do the multiply and divide, left to right:
2[9]÷3
18÷3
