11. After the Byzantine Empire fell, what happened to that region?
1 answer
After the fall of the Byzantine Empire, the region came under the control of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire ruled over the region for several centuries until its eventual collapse after World War I. Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, various European powers, such as Britain and France, divided up the region into mandates and protectorates. Eventually, many countries in the region gained independence and formed their own nations. Today, the region is known as the Middle East and includes countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Israel.
