3x + 2y +5x=4
8x = 4 - 2y
x = (4 - 2y)/8
or
x = 1/2 - (1/4)y
8x = 4 - 2y
x = (4 - 2y)/8

Of what are you taking the square root ?
You will need to use brackets,
e.g.
√(3x + 2y) + 5x = 4
or ...
√(3x) + 2y + 5x = 4
or
can you see the problem if you don't use brackets ??

So According to this calculation I sulohd have asked my girlfriend to marry me 7.3 years *before* I met her !!(my answer was -7.6)I know I waited a long time to find the right woman, but I am sooo happy I did !
