However, to what or whom are you referring with the pronoun "they"?
If you're referring to India, the pronoun should be "it."
I'm writing an essay. Is this semi-colon used appropriately or should it be a new sentence?
At the age of six, India seemed like a completely different world to me; they had a different way of life than anything I had ever been exposed to.
