What’s the significance of the “programming language” to my business

The main issue in a business is that the software be able to be modified over a long number of years, and be machine compatable for many years. Choosing mainstream languages is one way to hedge that this will happen. When in business, don't be the first, nor the last, to be an application written in a specific code.
