A sheet of paper is 8 1/2 in wide and 11 in long. The sheet is printed with a margin 1 1/4 in. wide on all four sides. Find the perimeter of the printed part of the page.
I got 34; I subtracted 11 with 1 1/4 and 8 1/2 with 1 1/4. I got 9 3/4 and 7 1/4. I added those and got 17, then I doubled it and got 34.

no, you have to subtract the margin on both sides, and top and bottom
W=8.5-2(1 1/4)=8.5-2.5=6
L=11-2(1 1/4)=11-2.5=8.5
P=2(6+8.5)2*14.5=29 check that
W=8.5-2(1 1/4)=8.5-2.5=6
L=11-2(1 1/4)=11-2.5=8.5
P=2(6+8.5)2*14.5=29 check that

Hello
Here is the simpler version
W= 8.5 - 2 x 1 1/4 (using PEMDAS) = 8.5 - 2.5 = 6
L= 11 - 2 x 1 1/4 (using PEMDAS) = 11 + 2.5 = 8.5
P= 2 x (6+8) = 2 x 14.5 = 29
W= 8.5 - 2 x 1 1/4 (using PEMDAS) = 8.5 - 2.5 = 6
L= 11 - 2 x 1 1/4 (using PEMDAS) = 11 + 2.5 = 8.5
P= 2 x (6+8) = 2 x 14.5 = 29
