Simplify
y^3/y^10

My answer is 1/y^7 but I'm not sure of the steps that got me to the answer.

easy. Note that

y^3 / y^10 = y^3 / y^3*y^7
The y^3 factors cancel, and you are left with 1/y^7

Or, use the rule that in division, you subtract exponents, so

y^3/y^10 = y^(3-10) = y^-7 = 1/y^7
