    Although some of the HNO3 gives H2 gas most is reduced to NO. I have never heard of the "partial method" but my best guess is that it is the same as the half reaction method.
Zn ==> Zn^2+ + 2e
HNO3 +3e + 3H^+ ==> NO + 2H2O
------------------------
Multiply the top equaton by 3 and the lower equation by 2 and add. You should have
3Zn + 2HNO3 + 6H^+ ==> 3Zn^2+ + 2NO + 4H2O
To maker a molecular equation out of this you add 6NO3^- to each side to end up with
3Zn + 8HNO3 ==> 3Zn(NO3)2 + 2NO + 4H2O
