A pair of jeans is on sale for 25% off the regular price. Write the algebraic expression for the sale price. If the original price of the jeans was $40, evaluate the expression to find the sales price.

My answer is s = p - 0.25 p; $30
1st question:
not sure if you mean: 5^2 - 4/5 + 2
or
(5^2 - 4)/5 + 2
or
....
can you see why you might want to use brackets to establish the correct order of operation
so, if 5^2 - 4/5 + 2
then 25 - 4/5 + 2 = 27-4/5 = 131/5

if (5^2 - 4)/5 + 2
then (25-4)/5 + 2
= 21/5 + 2
= 31/5
sale price = 40 - .25(40) = 30
or
sale price = .75(40) = 30

(your statement of s = p - .25 makes no sense)
