Why should a voltmeter have a hisg resistance? How should a voltmeter be connected to the componenets of which the voltage is being measured.

The resistance of the voltmeter should be large compared to the resistance across which the voltage is being measured. If not, the voltmeter will act
as an addition load on the circuit resulting in a lower reading.

The voltmeter should be connected in parallel with the component.
