Why was the policy of containment unsuccessful in Vietnam/Asia?

Ms. Sue
It's foolish for us to think that the U.S. is all powerful. Seeds of communism and civil war in Vietnam had been sown long before we came into the picture. We didn't have the strength or the will to lose more thousands of soldiers in a war that shouldn't have involved us.

By the way, I've spent 4 weeks in Vietnam in the last 20 years and have seen how it's leaning more and more toward capitalism.
