well, I guess it is ok to use g = 9.81 m/s^2 but we will have to check later if the thing is a significant fraction of an earth radius high.
(1/2) m v^2 = m g h
v^2 = 2 g h
h = v^2/19.6 = 49*10^4 / 19.6 = 25,000 meters

that is a small fraction of earth radius so constant g assumption should be all right.
