What is a charge dipole a basic model of?

There is indeed a magnetic dipole which has field lines of the same shape as an electric charge dipole. We also use the dipole model in fluid physics combining a source and a sink close together which also has the same sort of streamlines. All are examples of moments, meaning effect with no net charge or source.
