If * denotes "square root", rather than the conventionsl meaning of "times", then what does your ^ before the 2 represent?
The square root of x^5 can be written
x^(5/2), if that is what you mean.
In that case, the answer is
x^(5/2)/x^(-5/2) = x^5.
