    A solvent that will dissolve no more solute is saturated. A solvent that will dissolve more solute is unsaturated. A solute that, because of some outside condition, has dissolved more solute that it can hold at a particular temperature, is supersaturated. Supersaturated solutions are unstable and the excess solute will precipitate easily (for example, shaking, stirring, drop in a crystal of solute, add a speck of dust, etc are actions that will cause the excess solute to come out of solution and what is left is a saturated solution).
