What would the ratio be if the first triangle has sides of 4cm, 8cm, and 12cm and the second triangle had sides of 1cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm? Would the ratio be 4:1 or 1:1/4?

first:second is 4:1
second:first = 1:4
When you want a ratio, you need to specify which to which
The first value is in the numerator, the second in the denominator. The colon (:) takes the place of the word "to".
