old price --- x
.8x = 250
x = 250/.8 = 312.50
check:
markdown on 312.50 = .2(312.50) = 62.50
new price = 312.50 - 62.50 = 250
.8x = 250
x = 250/.8 = 312.50
check:
markdown on 312.50 = .2(312.50) = 62.50
new price = 312.50 - 62.50 = 250

I respectfully disagree, the answers are not the same
If I take a take a 20% markdown on your $300
I get $60, which would leave a new price of $240, not $250
