1. What was the Supreme Court's ruling on the Dred Scott case? (1 point)D
red Scott should be considered free since he had lived in many states where slavery was banned.
Dred Scott could be free if he paid a fee.
Dred Scott was still a slave and not a citizen.
The case never reached the Supreme Court.

" ... in which the Court held that African Americans, whether slave or free, could not be American citizens and therefore had no standing to sue in federal court, and that the federal government had no power to regulate slavery in the federal territories acquired after the creation of the United States. <b>Dred Scott, an African American slave who had been taken by his owners to free states and territories, attempted to sue for his freedom. In a 7–2 decision written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, the Court denied Scott's request.</b>"

Please re-read and re-think.

if not, a?

Now, you're just guessing.

Reread and rethink ... and then let me know which one you choose AND WHY? What words in what I quoted above are the basis of your choice?
Answered by TTR+S<3
i thougt it was c because of the first part of the paragraph, a i just guessed.
but no reading it over... i think it would be the last one cause of this part of the paragraph:
Dred Scott, an African American slave who had been taken by his owners to free states and territories, attempted to sue for his freedom. In a 7–2 decision written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, the Court denied Scott's request.

Are these your answer choices?

a. Dred Scott should be considered free since he had lived in many states where slavery was banned.
b. Dred Scott could be free if he paid a fee.
c. Dred Scott was still a slave and not a citizen.
d. The case never reached the Supreme Court.

Please reread everything, and tell me how it can be d??
Answered by TTR+S<3
ugh..... yea..... it never did say anything about d. i think what i saw was just federal court and jumped to conclusions...

im going to say c

but im probably wrong..... i don't see what im missing.
Answered by TTR+S<3
ok, im going with c, period.
Answered by Writeacher
I agree with you on c.

" ... the court denied Scott's request" -- so it can't be d. If it had been d, it wouldn't have reached the court in the first place.
