It was an ongoing process. Apparently, he began thinking about evolution as early as 1831 at the beginning of the voyage to the Galapagos Islands. He published <u>Origin of the Species</u> in 1859.

When he went on the "HMS Beagle" expedition to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, and just afterwards. The time was 1831-1837
