Try converting to fractions. Then you have
11/8 14/8 17/8 23/8
I think the last one should be 2 1/2, since you added 3/8 the first two times.
If it really is 2 7/8, ya got me.
Or, it could be that you just missed a term of 2 1/2 in between 2 1/8 and 2 7/8.
