-5y - 9 = y - 1
-5y - y - 9 = -1
-6y - 9 + 9 = - 1 + 9
-6y = 8
-6y/-6 = 8/-6
y = -4/3
Are you sure you have the right equation? If the equation said:
5y + 9 = (y + 1), y would equal -2
5y - y + 9 = 1
4y + 9 - 9 = 1 - 9
4y = -8
4y/4 = -8/4
y = -2
-5y - y - 9 = -1
-6y - 9 + 9 = - 1 + 9
-6y = 8
-6y/-6 = 8/-6
y = -4/3
