Once it has been opened, and particularly if ithas been left open to the air, a bottle of aspirin may develop a vinegar-like odor.How this might happen?

It hydrolyzes in air, particularly if the air is very humid, to produce CH3COOH (acetic acid which is the vinegar smell).
