I think it might be 4x^3 – 2x^2-1

+a + b + c
-d + e - f
-------------subtract
to subtract, reverse the sign of the lower line and add
+a + b + c
+d - e + f
---------------- then add
a+d+b-e+c+f
so
(6x^3 – 2x^2 +4)
-(2x^3 + 4x^2 – 5)
------------------subtract
is the same as
(6x^3 – 2x^2 +4)
+(2x^3 + 4x^2 – 5)
------------------ add
8x^3 + 2 x^2 - 5

Hey wait a minute.
I did your subtraction as you wrote it but maybe you meant difference between these two
(6x^3 – 2x^2 +4) and (2x^3 + 4x^2 – 5)
that is
(+6x^3 – 2x^2 +4)
(-2x^3 - 4x^2 + 5)
---------------------- add
4 x^3 - 6 x^2 + 9
