y = x + 1
2y = 2x + 2
Now substitute y = x + 1 into the equation 2y = 2x + 2
2y = 2x + 2
Now substitute y = x + 1 into the equation 2y = 2x + 2

3x + 6 = 2(x+3)
3x+6 = 2x+6
0=0
The variable dropped out and we had a true statement.
So there will be an infinite number of solutions since the equation is actually an identity, that is, the left side is equal to the right side
If , however, the variable drops out, and you end up with a false statement, there would be NO solution
e.g. 2x + 3 = 2(x+5)
2x + 3 = 2x + 10
3 = 10 --> false, thus no solution
3x+6 = 2x+6
0=0

x=x
because even though you don't know the value of x you don't need to so either way its true
hope this helped <3

I need heelp
i have the equation:
2x + 2y = 4
6x + 6y = 6
I tried solving it by substitution but It ended in 4=4 and I don't know wether it has an infinite number of solutions or no solutions
