A modern person is defined as a someone who advocates or practices a departure from traditional styles or values. Theodore Roosevelt was a modern president by starting political policies that are reflective of our society. His policies included regulating big businesses, Starting national park system, and most of all ran on a third party ticket.

Theodore Roosevelt involvement in big businesses focused more on regulating large corporations. Making sure businesses competed fairly through regulation. He also responded to public dismay about practices of food and drug industries. When Upton Sinclair exposed the unsanitary conditions in “The Jungle” and Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson second it. Congress responded by passing laws which required inspections and forbade manufacture, sales, transportation of harmful ingredients.
President Roosevelt believed Conservation involved active management of land which could be used in various ways. The Newlands Reclamation Act allowed the federal government to create projects to make land productive.
