Use Venn diagrams
draw two intersecting circles , one labeled E and the other labeled H within a rectangle.
You know the intersection of E and H is 70
and the part outside the two circles is 8
It said 5 failed in H only, so they must have passed E, so they can't be part of the 8, but must be the part of E which is not the intersection. Put 5 into the "E only".
label the "H only" as x
then
x + 70 + 5 + 8 = 100
x = 17
