Ethiopia's Agriculture Ministry to Launch New Initiative to Combat Drought and Boost Crop Yields

In response to the growing threat of drought and its impact on food security, the Ministry of Agriculture in Ethiopia has announced a new initiative aimed at improving agricultural practices and boosting crop yields in the country.

The initiative, which is set to be launched next month, will focus on promoting sustainable farming techniques, providing training to farmers on climate-smart agriculture practices, and investing in improved irrigation systems to mitigate the effects of drought.

Ethiopia has been experiencing increasingly frequent and severe droughts in recent years, leading to crop failures and food shortages in many parts of the country. The government hopes that this new initiative will help to build resilience among farmers and ensure that they are better able to withstand the effects of unpredictable weather patterns.

"We are committed to ensuring food security for all Ethiopians, and this initiative is a key part of our efforts to achieve that goal," said Agriculture Minister, Dr. Belete Tafesse. "By promoting sustainable farming practices and providing the necessary support to farmers, we believe we can make a real difference in the fight against drought and food insecurity."

The initiative is set to be rolled out in several regions across Ethiopia, with plans to expand it to other areas in the future. The Ministry of Agriculture is also working closely with the United Nations and other international partners to secure funding for the initiative and ensure its success.

"We cannot afford to sit idly by while our farmers suffer the effects of drought," said Dr. Tafesse. "We must take decisive action now to protect our agricultural sector and ensure a bright future for all Ethiopians."
