Stop Using Animals
A. Ghimire

rats in a lab
Today, I want to tell you why I think animal testing is bad. According to the ADF, more than one million animals are tested in the lab in the U.S. ADF stands for Animal Defense Fund. This happens every year. Under current law, labs do not need to share data about the animals used for experiments. Most common animals that suffer in labs are rats, mice, birds, and fish.

Did you know that after a lot of people protested, chimpanzees are no longer used in labs? The National Institutes of Health announced this in 2015. If more people speak out, perhaps fewer animals used be tested in labs. Perhaps we can stop animal testing altogether.

To begin with, animal testing is not even worth it. Data from the FDA proves it. FDA stands for Food and Drug Administration. It says only 8% of drugs tested on animals are okay for people to use. That is too small a number! What a waste of time and money! What a way to hurt animals for no good reason or results!

I know why scientists test on animals. Animals and people share a lot of diseases. This is better than testing on people. However, people should find other ways to do these experiments. They should do it without hurting animals.

The statement that describes an important point found in both articles is:

A. Some humans fight for better treatment of animals.

This option reflects the advocacy against the mistreatment of animals in contexts like testing and entertainment, which is a common issue addressed in discussions about animal rights.
