1 6 ? ? 1
--- + ---- = --- Then, --- + ---=?/?
8 7 ? ? 6

8+7=15. 1+6 = 7. 7/15 simplified is 15/7. 15/7 as a mixed number is 2 1/7.

Then, do 2 1/7+1/6.
Ahh, Jiskha messed up my first part! Dang it!
8 = 2*2*2
7 = 7
6 = 2*3
so least common multiple is
8*7*3 = 168
1/8 = 21/168
6/7 = 24/168
1/6 = 28/168
so
(21+24+28)/168
Either I need to crack open a math book and I messed up, or Damon does things a different way. Either way I need to do more math!
Annabelle -- no!
So I did it wrong?
Annabelle,
To add fractions you need a common denominator.
like
1/3 + 1/2 = 2/6 +3/6 = 5/6
Oops, maybe I should stick to helping people in Social Studies and Science, subjects that I'm better at, or leave math to the tutors.
just like 2 pumpkins + 3 pumpkins = 5 pumpkins
2(1/6) + 3(1/6) = 5/6
but
2 apples + 3 pumpkins is just that :)
1(1/3) + 1 (1/2) = nothing useful but that
My money is definitely on Damon !

Annabelle just tossed some number salad.
6/7 = 24*6/168 = 144/168
so it should be
(21+144+28)/168
